When the car's exhaust passes through the Three Way Catalyst, the three gases will be activated by it, provoking chemical reactions of oxidation and reduction. In particular, carbon monoxide is oxidized to the colorless and non-toxic carbon dioxide, while hydrocarbons are being converted to water and carbon dioxide and finally, nitrous oxide is reduced to nitrogen and oxygen.
